Almost Time For Colour
June 26, 2009 by Janice
“I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music.”~ Joan Miro
Are we there yet? I have just a few postcards left to draw of that 45 or so. And as I drew them yesterday, while I was enjoying just pencil line. Other questions asked themselves. Like is it nearly time? Nearly time for cutting and some pasting on. Or is it time for color yet. Huh, is it time ?
Like an an adolescent dog wanting to go out, color nipped its nose under my hand and wagged it’s eager tail.
As I was enjoying just the line yesterday, and noting all the shapes, texture waved it’s hand at me and said, “What are you going to do about me? Figured out this surface yet? How much are you going to play?”
And as I was enjoying just flat forms and simple contour line, value poked its 3 D head up and said,”Hey I have to be in there too! At least the hint of me.”
Yes, It got a little noisy. A little ” me too, me too.”
I simply logged each request and continued on. Simple lines, simple shapes calling out for rhythms, calling out for rhymes, calling out for color…
…and yes it is almost time.
I have to say, our ad hoc mail art group had an interesting behind the scenes discussion this week. It’s a diverse group, artists and “non-artists”. All incredibly clever and brilliant in their own fields. And I am so very proud to say, it couldn’t be a more generous group, helping each other over roadblocks, cheering each other on. And frankly, talking about color, each person is a crayon with a gorgeous color all their own. This artist is smiling because that is a lovely sight to see.
So It’s Friday. And yes, I just called my friends crayons. LOL So it may be almost time for color, but it is definitely time for that Naughty Margarita. Phew! What a week!
How about you? Did you have a good one? And should we ask, if you WERE going to be a crayon, what color would it be? Oh yes, we have to ask that don’t you think?

When I was a kid, my lemon yellow crayon was always the first to be worn down to a nubbin, so that must be me. Everything I drew had yellow in it, even if that wasn’t the traditional color for something. And margaritas are sort of yellow, aren’t they?

Janice,
Once I would have said I’d be a blue or a grey or a brown crayon, but these days… the last five years or so, really, I’m a red crayon.
The assembly-line at Chez Kelly is a bit crazy. As I go through step one of our postcard project I’d rather be on step two, and when I get to that I know I’ll be antsy for step three. It’s very hard to make the steps wait their turns right now. I hear you on that.
I’m scared, July 1st is staring at me!! After I enjoy a little vino, maybe it’ll be time to kick it into high gear.
Vino first, though. Today feels verrrry Friday.
Regards,
Kelly

Kelly,
Red suits you to a tee. I was on the phone with my younger sister yesterday who was staring at here newly painted red wall. I dunno she said, I just had to paint it red. As the paint was drying she was saying.. uh.. what do I do now with that bright red wall? Well, of course, I said, you put a lot of totally excellent art on it. She smiled and said I thought so too!!
Joanna asked if July 1 was absolute. What do you think? We can play the ad hoc anarchy card and change that a bit if the group wants.
Yes, very Friday … me too.
Janice,
Once upon a time, I had a job that I loved, but it seemed I had a congenital difficulty getting there at anything but 5 minutes after I was supposed to be there. This was no big deal and I stayed late to show I was aware of the stupid issue, but it was embarrassing because respect and timeliness is everything to me. Why couldn’t I get there on time?
My boss laughed one day and said, “just change your starting time to 9:15 and it won’t bother you anymore.”
“I can’t do that,” I said, “then I’d get here at 9:20.”
Moral of the story 1: change the date and then that new date will loom large instead of the one that does now. Probably not good.
Moral of the story 2: I’ll try hard not to, I am pretty close to ready as I’m sure we all are, but I might be in at 9:05.
Later,
Kelly

So maybe ” July 1 ish” or “Fashionably” July 1 will suit us fine? LOL. There is probably a whole deadline post available with that.
“Fashionably July 1.”
Bwah haha.
I am nothing if not fashionable.
Still laughing…

LeeAnn,
I love yellow. Every one of my paintings seems to have to have some. Joy. It has exuberance attached to the color. And oh yes, a kind of yellow margarita? Definitely.
So I think we’ll go with “Fashionably July 1st”…LOL . I think it suits this group.
Chuckling still myself. This is fun.
Thank you both for coming up with Fashionably July 1st…
Being a girl, I’m going with that option
The stuff is coming together – in my head anyway. Time to start putting pen on paper later this afternoon…
