Gifts From The Sea
December 14, 2009 by Janice
Three. Yes. An unbelievable three Mondays left in this year. I am fighting a terrific urge to do a gazillion things at once. And I started the early bits of the year end review yesterday. I wonder what that thing is called in between what you want to achieve, the calendar, and your list?… hm.. oh yes, crunch time?
Sounds very painful.
Neal, my former personal trainer comes to mind….
I digress.
To avoid the panic ( okay to avoid most of the panic) I am using blocks of time myself. Blocks to get this and that done and still make time to take pleasure in the drawing.
I managed to get four gift drawings completed last week among the very intense getting rid of everything that no longer belongs on my agenda. Bringing to the fore the things that are most important. Making notes about what worked, what didn’t. And taking some time to appreciate the season. Some giggles scrunched into this crunch time. Holiday music helps. I got four lovely drawings and some islands of peace, totally yummy time.
I am nowhere near finished on my finishing of the shells. I have some paper left to fill. And moments to enjoy. And wrappings to pull together, some ribbons….yes, ribbons and cards to add… and of course all the rest of everything we do.
But I thought you might like a glimpse, a glance at secret scribbles…shh..don’t tell them….
And as we all put ourselves into this last three Mondays, maybe we should remember to give ourselves some kind of reward, some kind of pampering. Seems fair enough. I always did after I let Neal put me through my paces.
Little gifts to ourselves.
Some abundance.
Like gifts from the sea.
How’s your Monday going?

Carol,
))) Love your bears!!
LOL….That goes great with the Clapton that I’m listening to at the moment…had to take a break form the holiday jingles.
Well today was Monday and I was admittedly unproductive. Two more left, eh? I am going to need chocolate and tea, lots and lots of tea.

Hi Karen,
Me too I am afraid. Lots of both.
Yes…Chocolate and tea were on my list yesterday too. I think I spent most of my day on the phone. When I wasn’t reading about a woman and her underwear. Talk about a day derailed…when there weren’t enough left to begin with!
Janice, I can no longer think of Mondays without thinking of you and counting down with you. You’ve sunk me.
It’s starting to be a habit that Tuesday are twice as fast to make up for that feeling of Mondays running out.
Wendi,
That’s either calming or slightly scary. Yes, tea AND chocolate.
I hear that!! Phew! What a day. We could use a few elves around huh? I am thinking in the back of my head that in January we get a whole new bunch of Mondays though.
I hate the pressure of drawing and painting gifts. It stresses me out too much.
I’d rather do it spotaneously. For example, I’ll paint someone’s pet without telling them. If it turns out, I surprise them with a portrait of their pooch. But if it doesn’t turn out…I don’t’ say anything and no one’s the wiser.
But DON’T expect me paint on demand, as a “commission”. Then I just lose it and I paint garbage.
(Which is probably why being a professional artist is not my day job).
Friar,
I know how that can go. I really love it best when I am doing something purely for myself. These kind of are, but then I give them away to someone I care about.
Speaking of which…I did a portrait of Brett’s puppy and just gave it to him for Christmas. His kids really liked it.
Aughhhh, bet they did love that. Walter art. I stopped for a beverage , and a break, now must go back to work.. I have some of these yet to do.
